Kevin M. Emerson M.Sc., completed his interdisciplinary undergraduate training at the University of Utah, receiving a B.S. degree in Environmental Studies. During this time, Kevin co-directed the primary student-led environmental organization at the University. He received his M.Sc. degree and training in Environmental Sustainability at the Centre for the Study of Environmental Change and Sustainability (CECS) from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. For his Masters thesis he researched the role that higher education institutions play in fostering a more sustainable society. His Masters thesis is making impacts at the University of Edinburgh, where the University's Energy and Sustainability Office is considering his recommendations.
Kevin's employment and professional experience has included working in varied settings, for: Salt Lake County government, the Boulder-based Western Resources Advocates, the Salt Lake City-based Utah Clean Energy (where he currently also works as a Program Associate), as well as Salt Lake City's The Green Building Center. Kevin founded WSC in 2006.
Kevin's accomplishments and successes include the coordination of a multi-stakeholder effort leading to the University of Utah's purchase of over 30 million kWh of renewable energy credits annually, offsetting hundreds of tons of CO2 emissions in the Wasatch region's air each year, and directly supporting the development of clean, reliable, domestic renewable energy. More recently, Kevin worked with students, faculty and staff at the University of Utah to establish the University of Utah Office of Sustainability.
As as active community-member, Kevin remains involved in local community issues. Kevin is a native Utahn and enjoys being in the outdoors. When not working he might be reading, hiking, playing the mandolin, bicycling, gardening, or cooking with his wife, Beatrix. Kevin lives in downtown Salt Lake City.
Jennifer Eden, M.S., has a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Amherst College. As an undergraduate she completed research projects on how clouds affect the earth's energy budget and evaluated the accuracy with which General Circulation Models treat precipitation. Jennifer completed a Masteršs of Science degree in Geophysics from the University of Washington with an emphasis on atmospheric science and air pollution.
Following her studies, Jennifer worked as an environmental scientist in the field of air quality for seven years. Her primary focus was on regional scale computer modeling of ozone pollution and particulate pollution (primarily PM2.5) first as Photochemical Modeling Director at the Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium (LADCO) in Chicago, and then as Air Quality Modeling Consultant for the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality. Jennifer was in charge of completing comprehensive computer modeling of regional airsheds with the goal of projecting which pollution control strategies would be most effective.
Currently, Jennifer is an adjunct professor of physics at Westminster College where she teaches an interdisciplinary science course which explores the relationship between science and policy with an emphasis on sustainable design and development.
Jennifer's passion is to assist organizations and individuals in their pursuit of efficient and sustainable operating practices. She enjoys using her scientific and technological expertise to explore cost-effective means of pursuing a more efficient future.
Jennifer has lived in Utah for 9 years with her husband, two children and her dog. She enjoys running, hiking, biking and skiing in the Wasatch with her family and friends.
